Jean Miele and German Herrera use maps or indicia of maps in constructions to create feelings of wonder and mystery as well as anxiety and risk. Tatiana Parcero’s maps, superimposed on her own body or that of her child, pose questions about our individual origins, destinations, and the journey in between. Each of us can use free association when viewing Elaine Duigenan’s etched maps created from the tracks of snails eating algae.

Connecting with the Community

Houston Grand Opera Reaches Out

That’s what’s so wonderful this opera company. In looking far beyond the traditional repertoire, it gave voice to a community that didn’t necessarily have an operatic tradition, and proved that a company could create art that was not only beautiful and showstopping, but relevant to the times we live in and the people we are. By making connections like this part of the mission of HGO, Freud and his team show the world that opera not only has a dramatic past – but a dynamic present and future.

.A record of experiences that become a signature expression revealing and concealing again through memory and time we keep revising.  Playful yet unpredictable the journey unfolds as fun. 

Cobley is currently working on an upcoming show in January 2011.  Some of the new work is just a trace of what has gone before and other revisions travel through the grid relative to shadow and light.  The new series will focus on Darkness, light, shadow, color and revision.

Making drawings early on Marioni would envision what he wanted to create.  He couldn’t always get the vision exactly right yet it kept him challenged enough to keep making work until a signature shape would emerge.  Over time his skills expanded first with open form vessels, and then elongated forms of various size and finally the Reticello’s which are by far the most difficult to make. If the bubbles in a Reticello are imperfect the whole process starts over.
